Reflection and critical thinking

Reflection
I remember before starting my first year at University I was very nervous about not knowing what to expect. However I was very surprised at how quickly I managed to settle in and meet new friends. I started out with not much confidence at all, although I feel this grew immensely throughout the year. This was mainly due to me being a bit worried about meeting new people and opening up and being able to share my ideas with others as when I first meet people I can be very shy. I was also worried about not having much experience within Make-Up and Hair Design and how quickly it would take me to pick it up. However throughout the year I look back now and I am able to see how far I have actually come! I have gained so much knowledge and learnt so many skills, so therefore I feel I have gained a great boost of confidence which has helped me to grow a much more happier and positive attitude.
The actions in which I take have also changed since completing my first year, for example, I have learnt that it is vital to have good time keeping skills as it is very easy to quickly fall behind on work which is something I encountered in my first year. I felt I was under so much pressure and stress when I started to fall behind but this was due to me not realising how much work we would actually be given to do, where as now I have a clear understanding of the workload I won't be repeating the same mistake again! Within the first year I feel I had many strengths and weakness's but I have made sure I have taken them all on board in order for me to progress and do better this year.

Critical thinking
I feel one of my most successful moments was when we got to practice a variety of different looks for Halloween. I particularly liked when we all got paired up and then had to pick a design that we would both like to create on one another. I paired up with Beth and we both had great fun creating our designs, we only had 40 minutes on each person so unfortunately we didn't have time to complete the whole look and even though this was the case, I was still very happy with the outcome and what I had created. Also at home in my spare time I practised a few more Halloween looks on myself and friends just to improve my skills and get used to all the make-up products.

Another successful moment for myself was when we got to create scars and wounds for Gothic Horror I liked using all the different products such as wax to create such a realistic look. Firstly I carefully watched as Sue demonstrated how to create them and then I went off and created my own on my partner. I was very happy with the end result seen as it was my very first attempt!

One of the weakness's in my work within the first year would have been blending after applying my base, I feel this was due to me either applying too much base or not using the correct technique to blend and make it look natural. However as this was something I wasn't completely confident with I made sure I practised on a lot of friends and family over the summer break which I feel helped me improve on this a lot! You are able to see my blending isn't the best it could be on the photo's which I have uploaded below.
An unsuccessful moment for me I would say was when we did the Elizabethan assessment. This is because my partner was absent for a while so I wasn't able to practise the Elizabethan look which she wanted me to create. When it came down to doing the assessment I did my utmost best to create the design my partner had given me although I wasn't completely happy with it due to me not having much practice.
